Wednesday's San Francisco Shooter Arrested
The USA’s rising streak of public shootings shows no signs of abatement, as East Bay Times gives an update on a fatal attack in a San Francisco subway: police announced today that 26-year-old Javon Green was arrested on Thursday for his June 22nd shooting. The San Francisco Police Department posted his image from a surveillance video and received tips that led them to the suspect, who was booked into jail just after midnight on the 24th. CBS News confirms Green will be facing charges of “murder, having a concealed firearm and allegations of using a firearm.” According to East Bay Times, police have not confirmed whether Green is being represented by an attorney.
Green’s shooting in the train car killed 27-year-old Nesta Bowen and wounded a 70-year-old man who has since been released from the hospital, says East Bay Times. He made it to PIttsburg, “about 40 miles east of San Francisco,” before being apprehended, says CBS News. Speaking for the SFPD, Officer Kathryn Winters stated the police’s belief that Green and Bowen had previously confronted each other, but a motive has not been identified.
Though Winters alleged that “the shooting was not connected to upcoming Pride events,” the SFPD will be increasing their presence at all upcoming Pride events and around train stations.
