Memorial Day Mass Shooting Kills One, Wounds Seven
Early on Sunday, the outdoor Memorial Day festival at Taft, Oklahoma had swelled to about 1500 attendees, though the annual multi-day event usually numbered no more than a few hundred, ABC News states. According to The Oklahoman, just after midnight, gunfire broke out in the crowd following an alleged argument, killing one 39-year-old woman and non-fatally injuring seven victims with ages ranging from 9 to 56. The Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office was present at the event for security and began aiding victims immediately, reports The Oklahoman.
With his arrest issued, 26-year-old Skyler Buckner turned himself in to the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office later the same day, ABC News reports. As of Sunday, Buckner has been held in Muskogee County Jail, and an attorney has not yet been listed for him. No motive for the shooting has been released other than the argument referenced by witnesses.
CBS News adds that this shooting took place only hours before President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden’s visit to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX, where last week’s mass shooting occurred.
