High School Student Charged With Attempted Capital Murder
Eighteen-year-old Jaylon Elmore was charged with attempted capital murder on Saturday after two people were injured during a shooting at Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kansas on Friday.
School Resource Officer Erik Clark radioed for help just after 10:30 a.m. stating he had been shot and so had Assistant Principal Dr. Kaleb Stoppler. Officer Clark had also reported that he shot Elmore, which police confirmed KMBC News 9. No other students were injured.
Dr. Stoppler and Officer Clark were taken to a local hospital but were both released Friday and are expected to fully recover.
Police are currently unaware of what led to the incident or what type of firearm was used, or how many shots were fired. Along with the FBI, local police will be investigating the shooting in the coming days and weeks according to CNN.
Elmore remained hospitalized at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in critical condition on Saturday when his bail was set at $1 million according to Johnson County Jail records.
