1 Dead, 2 Injured in Shooting at Xavier University
Eighty-year-old grandmother Augustine Greenwood has died and two men were injured in a shooting following a high school commencement ceremony on Xavier University’s campus.
According to New Orleans Police Department Chief Deputy Superintendent Christopher Goodly, officers were already on scene working security detail when a fight between two females broke out. Soon after the arguing began, multiple subjects produced weapons and shots were then fired at about 11:45 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found three victims, two men, and Augustine Greenwood. Greenwood was taken to a local hospital where she later died. Greenwood was a mother of six and grandmother of fifteen, with her youngest grandchild graduating high school yesterday.
Both men were rushed to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. One man was shot in the shoulder, and another in his leg.
Multiple people were detained at the scene for questioning, police said. A suspect and motive are still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
