Couple Charged With Child Abuse After Baby Is Thrown Against Wall
Two Omaha parents have been charged with intentional child abuse after the father, 23-year-old Theodor Hurt allegedly threw their eight month old girl across a room and into a wall causing a skull fracture. The baby’s mother, 24-year-old Dakota Vick, allegedly witnessed this event and did nothing for days.
Hurt and Vick both initially lied to investigators about how the injury occurred. Hurt told police the injury occurred after he threw his daughter into a travel crib because she was fussy.
When the baby was taken to Children’s Hospital on November 22, by her parents because of swelling to her head. A CAT scan revealed the child had a skull fracture on the right side of her head, and a brain bleed which was causing the malformation of her head, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
According to police, Hurt was under the influence of several shots of alcohol and was taking care of four other children. Others who were interviewed stated the child fell off the couch twice on November 19 according to the Associated Press.
Hurt is being held on $82,000 bail and faces a caretaker neglect misdemeanor charge, accused of striking his then 7-year-old daughter multiple times in December 2020, causing her to stay home for a week. Vick is being held on $21,000 bail.
The baby and four other children, ages 8, 6, 4, and 2, have been placed in state custody.
