VA man turns himself in after killing toddler

39-year-old Al Demond McNeil from Portsmouth turned himself in to Portsmouth police yesterday. He is being held in the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office, according to The Associated Press, for his fatal shooting of a 2-year-old boy on August 10th. The child, whom officers found at home when they responded to a reported gunshot, survived in the hospital until Saturday. Further details of his identity have not been released due to privacy issues.

NBC12 states that the victim's home was on Deep Creek Boulevard. The shooting occurred around 9:40PM. Police have not stated any details on the motive or circumstances leading up to the shooting.

McNeil is charged with "second-degree murder, use of a firearm and shooting in the commission of a felony," according to The Associated Press. His legal representation situation is not known.
