Ukraine Updates

Updates from CNBC and VOA News.

Ukraine has appealed again to the United States for air defense systems as Russian forces advance in Donetsk, which is in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, the UK has agreed to send more artillery, guns, drones, and anti-tank weapons to Ukraine. The UK Defense Secretary, Ben Wallace, gave an update to Parliament saying, “the scale and range of equipment we are providing demonstrates the strength of our resolve. Together with our international partners, we will ensure Ukraine has the tools to defend their country from Putin’s illegal invasion”.  In addition to the weapons, British troops have been providing military training to Ukrainian forces on UK territory.

CIA Director William Burns has addressed rumors that Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, is ill. He claimed there was no evidence to back up the speculative rumors and that Putin was “entirely too healthy”.

Since the start of the invasion, more than 9.5 million people have fled from Ukraine. 5.9 million people have been recorded as refugees, and 3.7 million have registered for temporary protection (or other similar national protection operations) in Europe.

There is “probably not a single square meter of land left untouched by the Russian artillery” said the head of the regional military in Luhansk. “The Russian army uses its usual tactics of massive artillery shelling and air strikes, uses of all available types of weapons to advance,” according to an update from Serhiy Haidai.

On July 14, Russian missiles struck the city of Vinnytsia. As of 7/21, 26 people have died from the attack. Among those killed were three children younger than 10. Today, 20 year-old Olga Lysenko died in the hospital, 98% of her body covered with burns, according to an update provided by Serhiy Borzov.

Following this attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the international community to officially recognize Russia as a terrorist state, and appealed for more military support, to which both the UK and US have responded.
