Two Suspects Arrested in Connection with Sacramento Mass Shooting
Dandrae Martin, 26, and his brother Smiley Martin, 27, were arrested in connection with Sunday’s mass shooting in Sacramento that left 6 people dead and at least 12 others wounded.
CNN reports that Dandrae Martin (pictured above) was arrested on Monday after authorities received over 100 photos and videos through their online anonymous tip portal. Police served search warrants at three homes where they recovered a handgun that was matched to at least some of the 100+ casings found at the crime scene.
Smiley Martin was arrested on Tuesday. According to a Sacramento Police Department press release, Smiley Martin was located at the scene “with serious injuries from gunfire and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.” Police say they quickly identified him as a person of interest but did not say what evidence led them to this.
Dandrae Martin is scheduled to appear in court today after being booked on assault and illegal firearm possession charges. Once Smiley Martin has completed his medical care, authorities say he will be booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a machine gun.
Interestingly, the brothers have not yet been charged with homicide. Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert said in a statement that “this is an ongoing investigation. Our ethical obligations as prosecutors prevents us from commenting about the specifics of the case. We will be reviewing the evidence provided to our office and making a determination of what, if any, charges are appropriate. If charges are filed, the complaint will be released to the public.”
