The Timeline and Victims of Jeffrey Dahmer

The Timeline and Victims of Jeffrey Dahmer

As one of the most infamous serial killers in modern history, Jeffrey Dahmer is the focus of multiple books, television shows, movies, and other kinds of media. However, his victims rarely share the same spotlight, their names often not even shared, just a number. Here are the stories of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims and their brutal deaths.

Steven Hicks - June 1978

Dahmer’s first victim was 18-year-old Steven Hicks, just three weeks after Hicks graduated high school. Hicks was hitchhiking to a rock concert at Chippewa Lake Park when Dahmer picked him up. Dahmer suggested the two have a beer together at his mother’s house.

After a few hours of listening to music and drinking together, Hicks wanted to leave and Dahmer would not allow him. Dahmer hit Hicks in the head twice with a barbell, knocking him unconscious. Dahmer then proceeded to strangle him to death. Dahmer dismembered Hicks body in the basement of the home. He would bury Hicks’ body in a shallow grave before digging him back up, then crushing his bones and scattering them around the property.

Steven Toumi - September 1987

Although he hadn’t killed anyone in nearly a decade, Dahmer claimed the impulse to kill was ever-present in his mind. During a short time within the U.S. Army, he allegedly raped two of his fellow soldiers. He was also arrested multiple times for exposing himself in public.

Dahmer and Toumi met in a bar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Toumi worked. The pair later went to the Ambassador Hotel together. Dahmer would later claim he only wanted to drug and rape Toumi. When he awoke in the morning, he found Toumi dead next to him with no memory of the previous night.

Dahmer eventually bought a large suitcase to dispose of Toumi’s body. He took his body to his grandmother’s basement, masturbating over his corpse, then dismembering his body and placing his remains in the trash. Dahmer was never charged in Toumi’s death, and parts of his body were ever found.

James Doxtator - October 1987

At only 14 years old, James Doxtator was Dahmer’s next victim. Dahmer offered him $50 to pose for nude photos, to which he agreed. As Dahmer later explained to detectives, he took Doxtator to his grandmother’s basement in West Allis, Wisconsin. Dahmer would drug, rape, and eventually strangle and dismember Doxtator. Dahmer later destroyed Doxtator’s remains with a sledgehammer.

Richard Guerrero - March 1988

Guerrero and Dahmer met outside of a bar in Milwaukee, Dahmer offered Guerrero $50 to spend a night with him at his grandmother’s house. Dahmer quickly drugged Guerrero with sleeping pills and strangled him. Dahmer then performed sexual acts with his corpse.

Unlike waiting for a period of time before dismembering and disposing of Guerrero’s corpse, Dahmer dismembered his remains within 24 hours. None of his remains were ever found.

September 1988

Dahmer’s grandmother asked him to move out in September 1988, fed up with him bringing home men late at night, his drunkenness, and the foul smell radiating from the basement. He moved into his own one-bedroom apartment later in the month on North 25th Street.

Dahmer was quickly arrested and charged with second-degree sexual assault and enticing a child for immoral purposes after luring 13-year-old Keison Sinthasomphone to his apartment. Dahmer drugged and raped Sinthasimphone, and most likely would have killed him if the boy hadn’t escaped. Dahmer spent only a week in jail before his release on bail before trial.

Anthony Sears - March 1989

Aspiring model Anthony Sears and Dahmer met outside of a bar in Milwaukee. Dahmer, motivated by fears that his apartment was being watched by police, brought Sears to his grandmother’s home. Dahmer drugged and strangled Sears. Sears was the first victim of Dahmer that Dahmer kept “trophies” of. Dahmer kept Sears head and his genitalia in a wooden box. For a period of time, Dahmer kept the wooden box in his locker at work.

May 1989

In May 1989, Dahmer was sentenced to one year in prison for second-degree sexual assault and five years on probation. He was offered work release so he could continue his job at the Ambrosia Chocolate Factory and was required to register as a sex offender. He was paroled and released from prison two months early in March 1990.

Raymond Smith - May 1990

Soon after his release from prison, Dahmer moved into an apartment on 25th Street in Milwaukee. Dahmer met 32-year-old sex worker Raymond Smith and offered him $50 to come home with him. Dahmer eventually strangled Smith and took photographs of his corpse in suggestive poses.

Dahmer dismembered Smith’s body in his bathroom, later boiling Smith’s remains and dissolving them in a container of acid. He kept the skulls of Anthony Sears and Raymond Smith side by side in his cabinet. When neighbors began complaining about the smell, he claimed his refrigerator needed worked on.

Edward Smith - June 1990

Unlike his other victims, Dahmer knew his next victim. Edward Smith and Dahmer allegedly were seen at clubs together. According to Smith’s brother J.W., Edward tried to be friends with Dahmer. Dahmer drugged and strangled Smith, then placed his skeleton in his freezer. Dahmer accidentally destroyed Smith’s skull by placing it in the oven, causing Smith’s skull to explode. None of his remains were ever recovered by police.

Ernest Miller - September 1990

Ernest Miller, 22, and Dahmer met outside of a bookstore on a corner of North 27th Street. Dahmer offered Miller $50 to come back to his apartment. Dahmer wanted to perform oral sex on Miller, and then gave him a drink with two sleeping pills in it. Unlike most of Dahmer’s victims, the lack of sleeping pills drove Dahmer to cut Miller’s throat. Dahmer kept parts of Miller’s corpse to eat. No parts of his remains were ever found.

David Thomas - September 1990

On September 24, 1990, Dahmer met 22-year-old David Thomas at the Grand Avenue Mall. Dahmer lured Thomas to his apartment for drinks, promising additional money if he would pose for nude photographs.

Dahmer would later state to police that after giving him a drink with sleeping pills in it, he did not feel attracted with him. He was afraid Thomas would wake up and be angry with him, so he strangled him and dismembered his body. He intentionally did not keep any parts of Thomas’ corpse, but did take photographs of the dismemberment process.

Curtis Straughter - February 1991

Curtis Straughter was 17 when Dahmer picked him up at a bus stop. Dahmer offered Straughter money for nude photographs at his apartment. Much like his other victims, Dahmer drugged him, strangled him, dismembered Straughter’s corpse, and kept various parts of his body as trophies and to eat.

Errol Lindsey - April 1991

Of all Dahmer’s victims, Lindsey was the victim of a torturous experiment unlike any other. At the age of 19, Dahmer met Lindsey and lured him to his apartment. Dahmer was hoping he could keep someone in a permanent submissive and zombie-like state. After drugging him, Dahmer drilled a hole into his head and poured hydrochloric acid into his head. Lindsey eventually woke up complaining of a headache. Dahmer eventually strangled Lindsey. Dahmer flayed Lindsey’s body, hoping to keep his skin.

Anthony Hughes - May 1991

Hughes and Dahmer met at a gay bar in Milwaukee. Hughes, who was deaf, agreed to accompany Dahmer to his apartment. Dahmer drugged him and proceeded to kill him. Hughes body was still in tact on the floor of his apartment when he lured his next victim.

Konerak Sinthasomphone - May 1991

Dahmer lured 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone to his apartment in later May 1991. Dahmer had no idea he was the younger brother of Keison Sinthasomphone, the boy he was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting and drugging. Dahmer drilled into Sinthasomphone’s head and poured hydrochloric acid inside of it after taking nude photographs and drugging the boy.

Sinthasomphone managed to escape while Dahmer had left the apartment. When Dahmer returned, he found Sinthasomphone woozy outside and surrounded by three women who had called police. Although police quickly arrived, Dahmer convinced them they were in a relationship together, that Sinthasomphone was 19, and the pair got into an argument after they were drinking.

Dahmer showed the polaroids he’d taken of Sinthasomphone the evening prior and police quickly labeled the incident as a domestic dispute. As they were leaving, they noted the odor radiating from his apartment. Dahmer eventually drilled another hole into Sinthasomphone’s head and killed him. He kept both the skulls of Hughes and Sinthasomphone together.

Matthew Turner - June 1991

Dahmer met 20-year-old Matthew Turner in Chicago and persuaded him to travel to Milwaukee for a photo shoot on June 30, 1991. Dahmer quickly drugged, strangled, and dismembered Turner. Dahmer placed different parts of Turner’s body in plastic bags and kept them in his freezer.

Jeremiah Weinberger - July 1991

Dahmer killed three victims within a span of 12 days. The first of these victims was 20-year-old Jeremiah Weinberger. Weinberger and Dahmer met at a bar in Chicago. He lured Weinberger to Milwaukee to spent the weekend together. Weinberger spent the night at Dahmer’s apartment. Dahmer drugged Weinberger and injected boiling water into his skull twice, sending him into a coma. Weinberger died two days later.

Oliver Lacy - July 1991

Only a few days later, Dahmer met Oliver Lacy, 24, and lured him to his apartment. Dahmer drugged Lacy and administered chloroform over the course of a few days to keep him alive, but unconscious. After Dahmer strangled Lacy, he had sex with his corpse. He eventually stored Lacy’s head and heart in his refrigerator and skeleton in the freezer.

Joseph Bradehoft - July 1991

Four days after killing Lacy, Dahmer was fired from the Ambrosia Chocolate Factory. The same day, Dahmer met and lured 25-year-old Joesph Bradehoft to his apartment. Dahmer drugged and strangled Bradehoft. His body laid on Dahmer’s bed for two days before he dismembered his corpse and placed his head into the refrigerator.

July 22, 1991 - Tracey Edwards & Jeffrey Dahmer’s Arrest

Soon before midnight on July 22, 1991, police spotted 32-year-old Tracey Edwards running down the street with one handcuff on and yelling for help. Edwards explained to two Milwaukee police officers how Dahmer produced a knife towards him, they watched a movie, and how Dahmer said he was gong to eat Edwards’ heart.

When officers arrived at Dahmer’s apartment, they almost believed his story that the situation was a misunderstanding. They found the photographs of dismembered bodies and swiftly arrested Dahmer. Calling for extra officers, the discoveries they would find were horrifying. The medical examiner stated “It was more like dismantling someone’s museum than an actual crime scene.”

Jeffrey Dahmer would eventually be sentenced to 15 life terms in Wisconsin, and receive a 16th life sentence in Ohio for the murder of Steven Hicks. He was immediately given nicknames such as the Milwaukee Cannibal and the Milwaukee Strangler and became infamous throughout the country. Dahmer would eventually be murdered in prison by Christopher Scarvel in 1994.
