Suspect in “Mo” Wilson’s Death Believed to be in Austin
KXAN reports that federal agents believe the woman suspected of killing Anna Moriah Wilson is still in the Austin-Travis County area. The U.S Marshals and other law enforcement officials are looking for Kaitlin Marie Armstrong as a suspect in connection to Wilson’s death.
CNN reports that Moriah Wilson was a star skier in college and had more recently moved to gravel biking, where she was quickly becoming the most talented and competitive biker on the scene. Armstrong was a yoga teacher.
Wilson was shot on May 11. She was visiting San Francisco for an upcoming bike race, and had gone swimming with pro-biker Colin Strickland. Wilson had previously dated Strickland, but at the time of the shooting, Armstrong and Strickland were in a romantic relationship. Wilson’s body was found in the bathroom of Strickland’s apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.
The New York Post reports that none of Strickland’s neighbors reported hearing gunfire at the time of the shooting, which has led federal agents to believe that the suspect may have used a silencer. The NY Post also reports on the affidavit, writing that texts from the night of the shooting prove that Strickland had lied to Armstrong about where he had been, possibly to hide the fact that he was with Wilson that evening. Armstrong and Strickland had been in relationship for around three years, excepting the brief fling he had with Wilson while they were on a break. According to an anonymous police tip, when Armstrong learned in January of Strickland and Wilson’s relationship, she became dangerously angry. She “became furious and was shaking in anger”. According to the NY Post, she wanted to kill Strickland.
CNN reports on an interview with Michael Armstrong, Kaitlin’s father. He was quoted as saying, “I know her. I know how she thinks, and I know what she believes. And I know that she just would not do something like this”.
Investigators believe that the shooting might have been motivated by romantic jealousy. The suspected murder weapon is a 9mm handgun. Strickland had purchased one for himself and one for Armstrong prior to Wilson’s visit.
