Murderer of Wife 'Told By God To Kill Her' in Lawrence, KS
Late on Monday, May 16th, 25-year-old Lawrence resident Regan Noelle Gibbs was found dead in her home by police, reports People Magazine. The 911 call came from Gibbs’ husband, 26-year-old Chad Joseph Marek, who claimed that God had instructed him to murder her.
According to People Magazine, no official cause of death has been released for Gibbs, and the only known motive is Marek’s religious attestment, which leads police to suspect psychosis. As of May 19th, International Business Times states that Marek was still being held on $1 million bond for the charge of first-degree murder. Marek has made previous claims on social media “link[ing] Satan to Halloween, the Easter Bunny, and the COVID-19 vaccine,” according to International Business Times, and his history of at least 10 prior convictions includes criminal battery. His next court appearance is set for today, May 24th.
Gibbs, a former goalie for the University of Kansas soccer team, is mourned by her mother and four younger sisters, and described as a “precious soul” who intended to train as a physician assistant.
People Magazine links to a GoFundMe arranged by friends of the family to cover funeral and travel costs. Not all police information has been released, as investigation of the case is still ongoing.
