Suspect Arrested for Hate Crime Shooting in Dallas

According to CBS News, a suspect was arrested early Tuesday morning in connection with the May 11 shooting in Dallas, TX.

Authorities have reported that a man dressed in all black opened fire on a hair salon before driving away in a maroon minivan. The salon, called Hair World Salon, is an Asian-run business and, according to CBS News, in the heart of Dallas’ Koreatown. Three women were shot and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the women were employees at Hair World, and the other was a customer. The Washington Post reports that they were all Asian-American.

The Dallas Police Chief Edgardo Garcia stated to CNN on Friday that earlier, "in the investigation, we did not have any indication that this crime was hate-motivated...As of this afternoon, that has changed".

The Dallas police believe that this and two other shootings may be connected because of the similar vehicle descriptions.

The first shooting occurred on April 2 when a person driving a red minivan fired shots at three Asian-run businesses in a strip mall near Hair World Salon. No one was hurt.

The second shooting was just a day before the Hair World incident, on May 10. A person in a burgundy car drove by a different Asian-run business and shot at the three people who were inside. No one was injured.

One suspect has been arrested and is being interviewed and processed. While no motive has officially been released, the FBI has opened a hate crime investigation.
