Romance Writer Who Sparked Controversy After Attempting to Trademark the Word ‘Cocky’ Goes Missing After Jail Release

According to People, Faleena Hopkins, a romance novelist who tried to trademark the word “cocky,” has been missing since she’s been released from jail after she allegedly led police on a high speed chase.

Hopkins, 52, is named a missing person on the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations website, but she hasn’t been seen since Jan. 30 in Jackson, Wyoming.

Independent claims that Hopkins was confronted by police on Jan. 27 when National Park Service officers say she was parked on the road at a junction, and Hopkins then proceeded to flee from officers in her vehicle, leading them on a 24 mile chase where they then decided to use spike strips to puncture her tires.

Hopkins was arrested and booked at Teton County Jail but was later released on January 30, and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 28; she’s charged with stopping or parking on the roadway, operating in excess of the speed limit and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

Hopkins, self published author of the “Cocker Brother” romance series, successfully trademarked the term “cocky” in 2018, but due to major backlash from other writers, she released the trademark registration.
