NYC Mother Fatally Shot While Pushing Baby's Stroller

Last night, a 20-year-old woman, name unreleased, was fatally shot in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She was pushing her 3-month-old infant in a stroller, states CNN, and the infant was not harmed. CNN reports that police are treating this as a domestic incident, implying the woman and her killer knew each other, and they have identified a person of interest to speak with. The woman was reportedly living in a woman’s shelter several blocks away.

Shot once in the temple at close range, the woman was transported to Metropolitan State Hospital and died an hour after arrival, says The Independent. TODAY News adds that the shooter was seen dressed in all black with a hooded sweatshirt, and a single bullet shell was discovered on scene. He fled on foot down 95th Street, though CNN reports the bullet “exited and was recovered from a nearby parked car.”

This incident is one more in the midst of the huge surge of gun violence events in the US, and CNN runs through some of the efforts made for and against greater gun control: the Supreme Court’s strikedown on “restrictions on carrying a concealed handgun outside the home,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s prospective legislative plan to tighten open carry laws, and other recent rulings.
