Mass Shooting at Summerton, SC Kills One, Wounds Seven
Marking yet another mass shooting during the weekend’s surge, 32-year-old Audrionna Kind was killed and seven others wounded after a drive-by targeted a high school graduation party, reports CBS News. Two vehicles pulled up and fired on the party, which contained about 150 people, at roughly 11PM on Saturday. The wounded victims included five teenagers, a 12-year-old, and a 36-year-old, according to USA Today. Kind died in the hospital on Sunday morning, while UPI News states the others were still hospitalized as of Monday morning.
CBS News conveys Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley’s idea that the shooting was gang-related, but investigation hasn’t pointed to any of the victims being specifically targeted, and no specific motive or suspect has yet been named. It is possible but unconfirmed that some of the partygoers returned fire, as officers found 60-70 shell casings at the scene.
In USA Today’s grim conclusion, the Summerton event made the 246th total mass shooting in the US this year—but drawing from their source, the Gun Violence Archive, the count has updated to 247 as of Monday evening, eleven hours after their article was released.
