Tennessee toddler Evelyn Mae Boswell vanished in December 2020. Authorities first learned that Evelyn was missing after hearing from her grandfather, who stated that he had not seen the toddler for a while in February. She was then reported missing. Her remains were said to be found at a property belonging to a family member of Evelyn’s mother in March 2020. Maggie Boswell claimed that her mother kidnapped Evelyn to a campground in Virginia.
Boswell has been charged with a string of charges, including two counts of felony murder.
During Friday's court hearing, Agent Brian Fraley testified that the remains were located in a storage building owned by Evelyn's grandfather — Maggie's father. Authorities say that Evelyn died of asphyxiation. Fraley testified that Boswell told investigators that Evelyn had died while co-sleeping with her, claiming that it was an accidental death.
Mileusnic-Polchan refuted Boswell’s statement, saying Evelyn was too old at the time of her death to have died in such a manner. She also states that she has only ever seen one case of a child around Evelyn’s age dying after an adult laid on top of them, and that case was ruled a homicide.
