Indiana Man Charged With Murder After Allegedly Killing Son's Mother Outside Daycare

Authorities in Indiana have charged 33-year-old Orlando Mitchell in the murder of his son’s mother, 32-year-old Krystal Walton as she was dropping her children off at daycare.

Walton was killed the morning of September 16 as she dropped her children off to the Charity Child Care in west Indianapolis. Police say Mitchell allegedly shot Walton in the parking lot in front of multiple witnesses, including some children.

According to WTHR 13, Mitchell’s mother reportedly came to the scene after she was told of the shooting. She told officers that Walton and her son hadn’t spoke in a month because he threatened to kill Walton and make it a “murder-suicide.” She also told police that Mitchell said: “If he couldn’t see his son, she wasn’t gonna be in his life either.” Afterwards, she gave police a description of his car.

Mitchell’s vehicle was found around 10:20 a.m. and was shot after a brief standoff with police. The suspect was rushed to the hospital for treatment and was swiftly arrested. Body camera footage showed Mitchell allegedly yelling: “I shot that b—ch” and “I shot that b—ch in the face!” as he was loaded into an ambulance by an EMS crew.

Mitchell was charged Monday with murder, invasion of privacy, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer. Mitchell has not entered a plea as of Tuesday.
