Miami Mother Arrested After Her Two Children Were Found Dead in Home

Odette Lysse Jossaint, 41, of Miami, is facing first-degree murder charges after her two children were found dead Tuesday night in their home by responding officers.

According to police, Jossaint called police beginning around 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening and would proceed to hang up. Officers responded to her home in the 100 block of Northeast 75th Street, in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.

She reportedly stated to police that they could “come and get them” and she “didn’t want them anymore.” Police explained that she appeared to be irate, or going through a mental health crisis.

Responding officers found 3-year-old Jeffrey and 5-year-old Laura tied to a bed with their arms, legs, and necks tied. She told police they were suffering, and would suffer less if they were dead, according to People.

According to police Spokesperson Michael Vega, four calls were made to the home within the past year, regarding domestic violence, trespassing, and disturbance. None of these prior incidents involved the children.

Jeffrey and Laura’s father, Frantzy Belval identified them and told the Associated Press he would pick them up every weekend, to spend the night with him. He also stated he wasn’t sure of any mental health diagnoses for Jossaint, but did note she lost custody of an older child whose father remained in Haiti.
