Intruder Stabs Man in His Sleep in Queens Apartment

Early Sunday morning around 2 a.m., Yang Zhang, 35, broke into a Queens apartment on 57th road at Lawrence street. Zhang was allegedly jumping from balcony to balcony in the area while high on hallucinogens. He stopped at a third-floor apartment where the victim, Yat Wong, and his wife lived. Zhang climbed through a window where the Wong couple slept.

According to investigators, the wife was startled by the intruder and bolted out of her apartment. This led to Zhang locking the door and preventing the wife from returning to her apartment. She heard commotion from inside which later turned out to be Zhang repeatedly stabbing Wong.

After the killing, Zhang exited the apartment through the window and tried to trespass into another apartment, but was blocked by the residents from getting inside. He then climbed down to the backyard where he was confronted by police and was subdued with a taser.

Police investigated the crime scene and pronounced Wong dead in the apartment.

According to law enforcement Zhang told them, “that he was looking for drugs”. Zhang was later charged with second-degree murder, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon.
