North Carolina Man Shot and Killed Mother and Son
A 69-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning in the Tuesday shooting deaths of a mother and son in Hope Mills, North Carolina.
The mother, Julie Camancho Smith, 48, and her son, Desmond Miles Brewington, 25, were found dead of apparent gunshot wounds at about 7 a.m. Tuesday. They were found behind their apartment building in the 6200 block of Hackberry Drive, per the Associated Press.
Hope Mills Police Chief Stephen Dillinger has said their exact causes of death are unknown, pending on the outcome of autopsies.
The suspect, Rodney William McCrary, was known to the victims, but the extent of that relationship is unclear according to the Fayetteville Observer. All three lived within the same apartment building.
McCrary was arrested Saturday morning at about 1:15 a.m. by detectives with the Hope Mills Police Department and officers with the State Bureau of Investigation.
He has been charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and concealing or failure to report a death.
