Four Dead In Tulsa Medical Center Shooting

Four people were killed Wednesday night after a gunman opened fire on the second floor of the Natalie Medical Building in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Law enforcement began receiving 911 calls just before 5 p.m. local time about a person with a firearm. Officers arrived at the scene within three minutes and made contact with the gunman five minutes later.

It is unclear whether the four people killed were medical staff, patients, or visitors. Although the exact number of those who were injured remains unclear, less than ten people have life-threatening injuries according to police.

The Tulsa Police Department later confirmed on Twitter that the gunman had died of self-inflicted wounds.

Tulsa Police Chief Richard Muelenberg told the Associated Press that the medical complex was a “catastrophic scene.” He and other officers told family members who were waiting for their loved ones to wait at local Memorial High School.

Initially, police were unaware of a motive. Tulsa City Councilor Jayme Fowler said the gunman was targeting a specific doctor and began shooting after he could not find the doctor, according to the Oklahoman.

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum swiftly responded to the shooting, expressing profound gratitude for the first responders who “did not hesitate today to respond to this act of violence.”
