Six Killed and Over Two Dozen Injured in Fourth of July Parade Shooting

At least six people were killed and 26 injured when a gunman opened fire on the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

Robert Crimo III was quickly identified as the prime suspect in Monday’s shooting. Crimo has performed as a rapper and has depicted school shootings. Crimo also posted frequently to a message board that discussed graphic depictions of murder, suicide, and death according to NBC News.

Crimo allegedly fired upon the crowd from the rooftop of a local business with a high-powered rifle. Many in the area fled into local stores and waited for police to clear the area.

Five people died at the scene and a sixth at a local hospital. All of the deceased victims were adults. The victims range in age from 8 to 85.

Crimo was apprehended by police Monday evening following a vehicular pursuit on U.S. Highway 41 and Westleigh Road in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker asked all Illinoisians “to pray for all the families who have been devastated by the evil unleashed this morning in Highland Park,” in a statement posted to Twitter.
