Chesapeake Walmart Shooting Leaves Six Victims Dead and Four Injured
Six people have died and four wounded following a shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, Tuesday evening. The suspect, 31-year-old Andre Bing, took his own life quickly after the shooting began.
The shooting began at just about 10:12 p.m. Tuesday when Bing reportedly entered a break room and began firing at his fellow co-workers. A tweet from the City of Chesapeake stated that Bing was armed with a handgun and multiple magazines.
Within four minutes, officers entered the building and worked to clear the scene. Officers found Bing and two victims deceased in the break room. Another victim was found near the front of the door. Three other victims were taken to local hospitals but died later.
Four victims were wounded and remain hospitalized as of Wednesday evening. Two remain in critical condition.
Police declared the building to be safe by 11:20 p.m. according to a statement made by Chief Mark Solesky of the Chesapeake Police Department. It is estimated that there were 50 people inside the store when the shooting began.
A reunification center was set up at the Chesapeake Conference Center for families seeking details on the whereabouts of their loved ones. Police ask the public that only families, relatives, or emergency contacts of potential victims visit the center.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has ordered all flags to fly at half mast out of respect for the victims.
The FBI’s Norfolk office will be assisting the Chesapeake Police Department in their investigation. Authorities ask anyone with information about the shooting to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
