Dumont Man Attacked Mother with Fire Poker
A man from Dumont, New Jersey was arrested Sunday after murdering his mother with a fire poker. Patrick Maupai (40) called 911 late Saturday night and admitted to attacking his mother with a fireplace tool according to North Jersey.com.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Maupai sitting on the front lawn of the small New Milford home he shared with his mother, has not run away. According to the New York Post, when they entered the home, the police found his mother’s body (79) on the ground in a puddle of blood, with multiple lacerations on her face. According to neighbors in the area, the two were not typically social, having avoided many of their neighbors and the mother seemingly only left the home on rare occasions.
As of right now, the motive and events leading up to her murder are unknown, but investigators are looking into their relationship. As of now, Maupai is charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses, and is being held in the Bergen County Jail.
