Alabama Corrections Officer Dies in Hospital, Inmate Captured
Former Alabama Corrections Officer Vicky White has died from her injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after she and escaped inmate Casey White were arrested in Indiana early Monday.
U.S. Marshals received a tip on Sunday evening that a 2006 Ford F-150 was seen at a car wash in Evansville, Indiana, 175 miles north of where they’d abandoned the Ford Edge they were initially driving when leaving Alabama.
Sheriff Dave Wedding of Vanderburgh County, Indiana, believes the duo were in Evansville starting on May 3rd.
The pair were caught following a three-state manhunt in Evansville when U.S. Marshals who were chasing them crashed into their vehicle. The Cadillac they were in was flipped over.
Authorities could get Casey out of the car where he surrendered to police. Vicky White was pinned inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Casey White was serving a 75-year sentence for attempted murder and other charges at the time of his escape. He was awaiting trial for the 2015 stabbing death of a 58-year-old woman and could face the death penalty.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Vicky White on May 2nd, charging her with permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree.
Lauderdale County, Alabama, Sheriff Rick Singleton now knows how planned this escape was. Soon after their escape, investigators found footage of the pair at a department store to buy Casey White clothes, although she’d brought along a pair. Vicky White also had sold her home for half of market value.
