Alabama Inmate Who Escaped With Help of Corrections Official Now Charged In Her Death
Casey White, the inmate who escaped from the Lauderdale County Jail in Alabama with the help of a corrections officer is now charged in her death.
Casey White, with the help of corrections officer Vicky White (no relation), set off a nationwide manhunt in April when she helped him escape from the Lauderdale County Jail in April.
The pair were found in Evansville, Indiana more than a week after their initial escape. Officials said Vicky White, 56, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after the car they were traveling in was rammed into a ditch by police on May 9.
In Alabama, a felony murder charge indicates the victim died while the accused was committing another dangerous felony, even if the person charged did not intend for the other person to die. White was charged with first-degree escape soon after his capture, per CNN.
In his statement and the following indictment, Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly made no indication who exactly shot Vicky White and will not comment on the charges further.
Initially, Casey White was awaiting trial for the 2015 stabbing death of a 58-year-old woman on capital murder charges. White was already serving time on a 75-year sentence for attempted murder and other charges.
