A mother and her daughter were found dead 24 hours after being reported missing

Michael Peterson, 31, contacted police on Wednesday afternoon to report his girlfriend and daughter missing in Spearville, Kansas. On Thursday, June 16, the bodies of Kayla Vasquez, 31, and her daughter Aalilyah Vasquez, 4, were discovered in different counties.

According to KSHB, the Spearville Police Department noticed evidence that a crime had been committed inside the home. The authorities decided to take Peterson in for questioning.

The KWCH reported that the Ford County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI). KBI agents and authorities began an extensive search for Kayla and Alilyah Vasquez.

At 4:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, the body of Kayla Vasquez was discovered in rural Ford County and 20 miles northeast of Spearville, the body of Aalilyah Vasquez was found in Kinsley, a city in Edwards County.

Autopsies will be conducted to determine the cause or manner of death.

The boyfriend, Michael Peterson, was arrested Thursday morning on possible capital murder charges connected to the deaths of Kayla Vasquez and her daughter, Aalilyah Vasquez.
