Human remains found in suitcases in New Zealand
A family discovered human remains among the items they purchased from a storage unit auction on Thursday, August 11. The remains found in the suitcases were identified on Wednesday, August 17, as two children of about primary school age.
At a press conference, Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said the autopsy report concluded the children had been dead and stored for a number of years prior to being found.
At the moment, police are not able to comment on the identities of the children, but they are working to determine their ages.
The Counties Manukau Police said in a statement, “From our enquiries so far, we can advise the occupants of the address are not believed to be involved in the incident. Police acknowledge them for their assistance so far and we are providing support for them.”
The investigation is ongoing as authorities search for what happened to the children. Any further details will be released as the investigation unfolds.
