10-Year-Old Girl Faces Murder Charges After Fatally Shooting Neighbor

A 10-year-old girl in Orlando, Florida was arrested Tuesday and is facing second-degree murder charges after fatally shooting a woman her mother was arguing with on Memorial Day.

The incident began Jernigan Gardens Apartments shortly before midnight near the 1400 Block of Mercy Drive. The ten-year-old’s mother, Lakrisha Isaac, 31, began arguing with her neighbor, Lashun Denise Rodgers, 41 outside of their complex.

Isaac allegedly punched Rodgers, and a physical altercation ensued. Rodgers’ boyfriend tried to pull the women apart, but Rodgers tried to “re-engage” with the mother. The girl began rummaging around a bag Isaac gave her, and produced a firearm.

Witnesses say they heard one or two gunshots, and as Rodgers fell to the ground, the girl reportedly screamed “You shouldn’t have messed with my mother!”

Rodgers was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she later died.

The young girl was initially placed in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families as charges were being referred to the State Attorney’s Office for review, per Fox 35 Orlando. The girl was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center without incident.

Isaac was arrested on charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault with a firearm, and child neglect.
