Woman Sentenced To 6 Years in Prison For Murder-For-Hire

A Florida woman has been sentenced to six years in prison for trying to hire a hitman and pay him in bitcoin to murder her ex’s spouse.

DeAnna Stinson, 50, was arrested in September 2021 for trying to facilitate a murder-for-hire on a “dark net” website. The day after she created an account on the website, she submitted an “order” to request that her ex’s current spouse be killed, per Oxygen.

In the “order” Stinson used a photo of the intended victim, their name, and address. Between June and July 2021, she placed four inquiries concerning killing her ex’s spouse. Stinson made five bitcoin transactions totaling over $12,000 to have the victim murdered.

Officials claim she messaged administrators of the website multiple times, and would offer an extra reward if the job was completed by a certain date. In late July, she requested the hitman be “someone with a history of getting jobs done.”

A federal agent then contacted Stinson and in a recorded phone call, she is heard saying she wants the victim dead. On September 13, 2021, Stinson sent the federal agent $350 to purchase a revolver and was quickly arrested.

Stinson plead guilty to one charge of murder-for-hire in January. On top of the six-and-a-half years she will serve in federal prison, she will undergo supervised release for three years afterward, and pay $12,000 in restitution.
