Vermont Man Charged With the Murder of New Hampshire Couple
Logan Levar Clegg, 26, of Vermont, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of Stephen and Djeswende Reid in April. Clegg was arrested in Vermont and has waived his extradition hearing to New Hampshire.
On April 18, 67-year-old Stephen Reid and 68-year-old Djeswende Reid were fatally shot after they left their apartment to go on a walk. Their bodies were found April 21 in a marshy area off of the Broken Ground Trail in Concord, New Hampshire.
Within a few weeks of their murder, the New Hampshire Attorney’s Office and the Concord Police Chief released a photo of a Toyota RAV4 they believed to be linked with the murder. The dark green car was captured on camera as in the parking lot of the Broken Ground Trail on April 18.
In an announcement from the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, Clegg is considered to be a fugitive from justice on the murder charges from Vermont. Authorities in New Hampshire are planning to seek Clegg’s extradition, according to WMUR.
Clegg was arrested on October 12 and has been held in the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans, Vermont on an unrelated fugitive from justice charge out of Utah. Investigators say that Clegg was on the run for 15 months. Clegg reportedly bought a one-way plane ticket and was set to leave the United States for Germany on October 14.
In an arraignment hearing Thursday in a Franklin County Superior Court, Clegg was charged with a fugitive of justice charge. Following the hearing, he waived his right to an extradition hearing.
