Two charged in LA for murder of unhoused veteran
37-year-old Rubi (or Ruby) Anguiano Salazar and 34-year-old Raymundo Hernandez were charged yesterday for the “brutal and callous” murder of 69-year-old Gerold Lipeles, reports CBS News. Lipeles, an unhoused veteran and double amputee, was allegedly shot on May 17th this year as he slept in his wheelchair. The shooting occurred in South Los Angeles, CA outside a McDonald's on West Century Boulevard. Lipeles died of his head injury after five days in the hospital.
Salazar has also been charged with “one count of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon,” reports People Magazine, as Salazar shot and wounded 67-year-old Stella Polly, also unhoused, on May 21st.
No motives have been officially released for these crimes, according to CBS News, and the suspects’ legal representation is currently unknown.
