Takeoff Shot and Killed in Texas
Rapper and one-third of rap group Migos, Takeoff, has died at the age of 28 following a shooting in Houston, Texas. Takeoff, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, was later identified Tuesday morning by his representatives.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at the 810 Billiards & Bowling located at located at 1201 San Jacinto at about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. Initial 911 calls reported that the victim had gunshot wounds to either his head or neck according to KPRC-TV. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other victims were taken to local hospitals in private vehicles.
During a press conference early Tuesday, police confirmed Migos members Quavo, 31, whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, and Takeoff were in attendance when the shooting occurred. Takeoff was identified by one of his representatives.
Police say the gunfire began over a game of dice. No direct motive for the shooting has been released.
Alongside his uncle Quavo and his cousin Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, the trio began Migos in 2008. They have steadily risen to become one of the largest and most influential rap groups of the past decade.
They first achieved mainstream success with their 2013 single “Versace.” Their bigger hits include 2016’s “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, “Walk It Talk It,” and “Motorsport” featuring Cardi B.
