Student Charged for Threatening to Commit a Mass Shooting at his High School

A 16-year-old boy from Long Island was charged with making terroristic threats and aggravated harassment after posting a story on Instagram in which he threatened to commit a mass shooting at his high school.

PIX 11 News reports that the student was arrested at his home in Bellport at 7:40 p.m. on Thursday evening. Police did not find any firearms in the house.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said he would “convene a school safety summit with parents, teachers, school officials and law enforcement to improve the community’s response to school safety threats.”

Due to his age, the suspect has not been identified. His threat comes just days after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
