A shooting at Field's Mall leaves three people dead

On Sunday, June 3, a 22-year-old armed man entered Field’s mall in south Copenhagen, Denmark and opened fire. The gunman killed three people and left several others wounded, including four who are in critical condition.

It was 5:37 p.m. on Sunday when police were called about a shooting at Field’s mall. When police arrested the Danish suspect 11 minutes later, they found him in possession of a rifle and ammunition.

According to BBC, the police chief, Soeren Thomassen, said the suspect had mental health issues and that the motive was unknown.

Authorities identified the victims that lost their lives in the shooting as two 17-year-old Danish girls and a 47-year-old Russian man, according to NPR.

Mahdi Al-Wazni had an experience with the shooter and told TV2, “He spoke to me and said it [the rifle] is not real as I was filming him. He seemed proud of what he was doing.”

The armed man is charged with manslaughter and is to be questioned by a judge on Monday.

Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary released a statement saying: “We do not yet know the full extent of the tragedy, but it is already clear that more people have lost their lives and that even more have been injured.”

Less than a mile away at the Royal Arena, British singer Harry Styles was scheduled to perform, but after the news of the shooting, his performance was cancelled. Styles posted on his twitter account, “I’m heartbroken along with the people of Copenhagen. I adore this city. The people are so warm and full of love. I’m devastated for the victims, their families, and everyone hurting. I’m sorry we couldn’t be together. Please look after each other. H.”

The gun attack is the worst in Denmark since the last incident in February 2015, when a shooting in the capital left two people dead and five police officers injured.
