Mississippi Woman Throws Infant Onto Road, Charged With Capital Murder
On Saturday May 9th, around 2 p.m. the police received several 911 calls reporting a woman “repeatedly and forcibly” throwing a baby onto the road in Pearl, Mississippi. The woman, Makaylia Jolley, was confirmed to be the mother of the abused infant. When the officers arrived, another woman was found holding the baby who appeared to be critically injured.
The two month old, Khaylise Lashay Jolley, was rushed to the hospital in Jackson, Mississippi and was pronounced dead at 4:33 p.m.
According to investigators, Jolley tried to escape into the woods near the crime scene but was quickly caught and put into custody on Thursday, May 12th. She has initially charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse, but as of recently, was upgraded to capital murder alongside felony child abuse. The death penalty has been considered.
Pearl Police Chief, Dean Scott, describes Jolley’s actions as “very deliberate and intentional” and is said to show no remorse for the death of her child.
Motives for the incident are still unknown. The only evidence of arrest prior to the incident included Jolley being put into custody on drug-related charges.
The infant’s older brother has been placed with his grandmother.
