North Carolina Woman Charged with Attempted Murder and Castration of Stepson
Bracey Byrd, 33, of Wilson, North Carolina, was arrested on September 30 and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and various counts of child abuse after she allegedly castrated her stepson.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspected child abuse in July from the Wilson County Department of Social Services. The child was reportedly taken to Wilson Medical Center’s emergency department with third-degree burns. Medical staff also found healing bruises which did not appear self-inflicted.
The child was transported to UNC burn center in Chapel Hill for further treatment. According to FOX 8, the boy’s injuries included bruises to his face, legs, arms, genital areas, back upper and lower legs.
In total, Byrd was charged with one count of attempted murder, felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, malicious castration, first-degree kidnapping, and three counts of felony child abuse with physical injury according to WITN. Byrd was given a $2 million bond in front of a magistrate.
No further information will be released to protect the identity of the victim.
