NYC Mother Charged with Murder of 9-Year-Old Daughter
On Sunday, Shalom Guifarro, 9, was found murdered inside the Brooklyn apartment she shared with her mother and younger sister. On Monday, New York investigators confirmed that the Guifarro’s mother was responsible for the crime.
48-year-old Shemene Cato is facing charges of murder, manslaughter, assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon, CBS News reports.
According to police sources, the child died of blunt force trauma. She also had bite marks and bruises on her back, head, and hands.
The New York Post reports that cops had been to the apartment on at least 14 different occasions due to domestic violence reports between Cato and her ex-boyfriend.
Cato works for the New York City Human Resources Administration and has retained counsel through her union.
The investigation remains ongoing.
