Kim Potter, Officer Who Shot Duante Wright Is Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison

Kim Potter, the officer who shot and killed Duante Wright at a traffic stop after allegedly pulling out her gun instead of a taser was sentenced on Friday to two years in prison.

Two months prior to the sentencing, Potter was convicted of first and second degree manslaughter. According to People, Judge Regina Chu said Potter would only be charged of first-degree manslaughter. Per state law, Potter will only be required to spend 16 months in prison and will be eligible for supervised release for the remaining third of her sentence.

Judge Chu noted that the sentencing was extremely difficult, as there were many mitigating factors.

Wright’s family is reportedly “very disappointed” with the sentencing.
