Former Tulsa Police Officer Sentenced to 25 Years for Murdering His Daughter's Boyfriend

Shannon Kepler, a 24-year veteran of the Tulsa police force, is sentenced to 25 years in jail after the murder of his daughter’s boyfriend, Jeremey Lake, in 2014.

After eight years and five trials, a jury found Kepler guilty of second-degree murder on Friday. Kepler’s first three trials ended with a deadlock. The fourth trial convicted Kepler of manslaughter and a prison term of 15 years, however, it was overturned by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals due to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.

In August 2014, Kepler turned himself in after firing two shots from a .357 magnum revolver, which fatally killed Lake.
