Illinois Men Charged with Murder, Accused of Committing 13 Violent Crimes in 4 Hours

Two men have been charged with the murder of 49-year-old Jose Téllez, who was beaten to death this past December while hanging up Christmas lights outside of his Chicago home, according to People Magazine.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown announced in a press conference on Friday that Pedro Mendiola, 21, and Moises Barrios, 23, beat Téllez with a baseball bat and crowbar in front of his daughter.

ABC 7 Chicago reports that it took prosecutors 45 minutes just to read the charges aloud in court. Prosecutors allege that Barrios and Mendiola beat up and robbed at least 13 other victims during a four-hour crime spree. Before murdering Mr. Téllez, “the pair attacked a postal worker and later terrorized a 4-year-old boy and his parents in their car, shattering the windows and robbing the father of his paycheck.”

In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Barrios and Mendiola face more than two dozen other felony counts. They are being held without bond.
