The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

Madeleine McCann was three-years-old when she disappeared from a Portugal hotel room while vacationing with her family. She was discovered missing on the night of May 3, 2007 and has been missing ever since.

Madeleine’s parents went to dinner with a few friends within the apartment complex (100 yards away). Throughout the night, the parents would rotate checking in on the children (Madeleine and her younger brother and sister). When Kate McCann (Madeleine’s mother) went to check on the children, she noticed Madeleine was missing. A search quickly ensued and Portuguese police believed Madeleine was abducted, however, that she was still alive.

On May 26, 2007, police made the media aware of a male seen the night of Madeleine’s disappearance possible carrying a child. The witness described the man as having dark-hair, wearing a brown jacket, dark shoes and tan trousers. He was reported to be carrying a girl wearing pink and white pajamas near the resort the McCann family was staying at. After four years of attempting to identify the suspect, the man was identified as Julian Totman, who was carrying his daughter back from a creche.

For over a decade, police and the family of Madeleine McCann have tried to solve this case in hopes of finding the little girl alive.

A statement from Madeleine’s parents says, "We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive, but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know as we need to find peace."
