35-Year-Old Case of Ivan Darling's Murder Reopening by Gettysburg Police

35-Year-Old Case of Ivan Darling's Murder Reopening by Gettysburg Police

On Tuesday District Attorney Brian R. Sinnett announced that the Adam County District Attorney’s Office and detectives from the Gettysburg Borough Police Department will be reinvestigating the 35-year-old murder of Ivan Darling.

Darling, age 79, was found dead in his house in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on Christmas Day 1986. His cause of death was determined to be from a massive hemorrhage due to numerous puncture wounds according to the District Attorney’s office. Evidence points to this homicide being motivated by robbery since some items were found missing from the victim’s home. No weapons were identified but investigators believe Darling’s wounds were a result of a knife.

Despite all the evidence involved in this murder, including various tips from the community and assistance from the FBI, no suspects have been identified for killing Ivan Darling.

Sinnett and investigators are optimistic this time around with the reopening of this cold case due to technological advancements they didn’t have back in 1986. They plan to review case files, conduct interviews with former investigators, and re-examine the evidence with modern technology.
