South Carolina Father Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murder of Young Son
South Carolina man, Michael Gamble, will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was sentenced on June 16 for the murder of his 5-year-old son back in 2019.
A Richland County jury only deliberated for an hour before finding Gamble guilty on one count of homicide by child abuse in the death of his son, Jaiden Hammond.
In a press release from the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, police were dispatched to Gamble’s home on January 22, 2019 and found Jaiden unresponsive and “showing signs of rigor.”
Authorities attempted to revive Jaiden but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Bruises were found on his body, including some on his right hip, torso, back, left and right cheeks, and chin.
Gamble’s girlfriend told police she heard him beating Jaiden with a belt for about ten minutes because “he’d been acting up on the bus the previous day.”
An autopsy performed by a forensic pathologist found Jaiden sustained multiple subdural hematoma and other brain injuries. He testified that these injuries occurred within two hours of his death.
Further investigation showed that Gamble took video of Jaiden threatening to call the police on his father for beating him, per people. Gamble “coached his son on what to say if anyone asked if he was beaten at his house.”
Judge Robert E. Hood sentenced Gamble to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
