Teen Charged with Murder After Shooting Lyft Driver
Authorities charged a 17-year-old with murder in the shooting death of a Lyft driver in St. Louis, Missouri, Saturday. Torian Wilson allegedly shot Elijah Newman, a 45-year-old Ghanian driver. Newman’s body was discovered Thursday night with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police charged Wilson with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after linking him to the crime through an email address. According to Daily News, authorities also linked the email address to several carjackings of drivers for apps like Lyft and Uber. Later, police apprehended Wilson with a gun that matched the bullet casing near Newman’s body. He then admitted to being present at the scene of the crime.Newman worked for Lyft to save up enough money to bring his children to America. According to AP News. Lyft stated that it would help law enforcement officers with the investigation.
