Suspects Charged in Brutal Murder Case

Philadelphia police charged two suspects with murder in the death of a 70-year-old man. Taray Herring, 47, and Jeanette Pace, 43, face charges after police found a dismembered body in the back of a U-Haul truck. The victim, Peter Gerold, died in February. Authorities charged Herring, a registered sex offender, with abuse of a corpse, criminal trespass, theft and evidence tampering. Then, they added a murder charge. According to NBC Philadelphia, police initially responded to a wellness concern from the Gerold's friend. When they arrived to Gerald's home, he wasn't there. The next day, a neighbor reported a robbery in progress, with a U-Haul leaving the Gerold's house. When officers pulled the driver over, they found body parts inside a trash bag in the back. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Gerold's hands and feet were deep-fried.Neighbors described Gerold as kind and always willing to help out. However, they also said he may have been too trusting"We figured he was always helping them do something, you know...I guess this is his payback for doing something nice," Linda Xander said, according to 6 ABC.Officers booked Herring and Pace in the Philadelphia Prison System. Police have not released a motive for his death.
