Maryland Mother Charged with Attempted Murder of Toddler

Authorities charged a mother of a 3-year-old girl in Maryland with attempted murder for allegedly slashing the girl's neck with a pair of scissors Saturday. Then, Anne Akers, 28, tried to do the same to herself. Police arrived at Akers' home when a family member called around 10:50 a.m. to report blood everywhere. They discovered Akers on the floor with a laceration on her neck. Additionally, she held the toddler in her arms, covered in a blanket. The child also had a deep gash on her neck, according to ABC.According to WGN 9, officers performed measures to save the girl's life, and took her to the local hospital. She survived, all thanks to their life-saving actions. Akers is charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree child abuse. Officials have not released a motive. She is being held on no bond.
