Woman Found Stabbed to Death After Being Followed into her Manhattan Apartment, Suspect Charged with Murder

A 35-year-old woman, Christina Yuna Lee, was found brutally murdered inside her Chinatown apartment on Sunday after chilling surveillance footage showed her being followed into her building by the assailant, a 25-year-old man named Assamad Nash.

The surveillance videos obtained by the New York Post shows Nash following Lee as she got out of a taxi and entered her apartment building. Another camera angle shows Nash entering Lee’s apartment.

According to the New York Times, Lee was stabbed more than 40 times. Neighbors in her building heard her cries for help and called 911. By the time paramedics arrived, it was too late, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities found the suspect hiding under Lee’s bed and arrested him immediately.

David Giambusso, a journalist at The Gothamist reports that the murder has not been ruled as a hate crime, “though it follows a spate of violent attacks on the city’s Asian-American community and a dramatic spike in Asian-related hate crimes since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Nash has been charged with burglary and murder.
