Virginia Teacher Shot by 6 Year-Old Sues School District, Claiming That Administrators Were Aware of the Gun
Abigail Zwerner, a Virginia teacher, was shot by a six year-old student while teaching class at Richneck Elementary, according to Fox News. Zwerner plans on suing the school district with claims from her lawyer that concerned teachers and employees warned administrators three times that the child was carrying a gun and threatening other students, “but the administration could not be bothered.”
CNN claims that police chief, Steve Drew, said that the shooting wasn’t accidental. Drew stated that allegedly there was an altercation between the teacher and the student, and that a single round was fired.
Fox News also claims that the gun belonged to the six year-old boy’s mother, and the family of the six year-old released a statement claiming that the boy has an “acute disability” and was under a care plan that involved his mother or father attending school with him and accompanying him to class everyday. The week of the shooting was the first time a parent was not with him.
The school board is set to hold a special meeting to vote on a separation and severance package agreement for superintendent George Parker III, as well as a vote on a new interim superintendent.
