Shooting at LA Softball Game

Shooting at LA Softball Game

Two people were killed and six were injured in a shooting at a Los Angeles softball game on Sunday. The shooting is reportedly gang-related, despite the softball game being a recurring, weekly event that has promoted peace between the LA area gangs for years.

FOX News reports that over 500 people were in attendance to watch the game, enjoy barbecue, and to watch the small low-rider vehicle parade. The shooting was at Peck Park, in the San Pedro neighborhood, and occurred just before 4:00pm. Reports indicate that two people became involved in a dispute that devolved into a gunfight. The shots spilled into the softball diamond, but other than these preliminary facts, police have offered few details. Multiple guns were found on location, but officials haven’t determined exactly how many people were involved in the fight.

Seven of the injured people were taken by paramedics to the hospital, and the sixth victim traveled to the hospital in a private vehicle. Two of the male victims died at the hospital.

So far, no names have been released, and no arrests have been reported.

A local nonprofit organization created the softball league five years ago. They aimed to safely bring together members of different Crips sets. The game on Sunday was between two teams from Compton.
